THE PROBLEM

Between long waitlists and often limited spots available, too many ABA programs treat social skills groups like another classroom lesson – focused on drilling “correct” answers, rehearsing rote social responses, and expecting kids to sit still and quietly while an adult talks at you.

Social growth doesn’t happen that way.

THE FIX

Social skills are learned through play, connection, and joy. Our groups are flexible, child-led play spaces where kids connect, communicate, and learn with their peers using our personally modified curriculum.

WHO WE SERVE

We are a alternative, play-based Social Skills Group located in Oakland, CA tailored to two child profiles: 1) highly active children who benefit from support with impulse regulation and appropriate peer interaction, and 2) more introverted children who need guidance initiating, joining, and sustaining group play/social dynamics. Both groups emphasize building friendships, effective communication, and emotional regulation.

ENROLLMENT OPEN

Saturdays, 9:30 - 10:30 AM, ages 7 - 12, highly sensory and physical, active kiddos
Tuesdays, 5:30 - 6:30 PM, ages 4 - 6, more introverted, need help initiating kiddos

Meet the SSG Team

Cameron Matthews, BCBA (He/Him/They/Them)

Clinical Director

Cameron uses a playful, flexible, child-centered approach in his work. He specializes in working with highly active kids with sensory needs and sensory seeking behaviors, helping them manage physical output and receive physical input in a adaptive, sustainable way. Decolonization, Community Care, and Cultural Competence are central to how he shows up in this work. In his free time, he enjoys painting, working out, and reading.

Lauren Hasserjian, BCBA (They/Them)

Lead Social Skills Group Facilitator

Lauren, who identifies as a neurodivergent individual themself, believes in creating neurodivergent affirming spaces that revolve around peer-to-peer connection. This can look like pro-Autism language and imagery. Lauren is intentional about prompt fading and including kids input in their care. In their free time, they enjoy painting, playing with their cats, and spending time in the sun with friends and family.

Julia Golizio, BCBA (She/Her)

Social Skills Group Co-Facilitator/Trainee

Julia brings a thoughtful, strengths-based approach to her work, with a strong appreciation for each child’s individuality. She focuses on helping children feel seen, supported, and confident while building skills that allow them to connect with others in meaningful, authentic ways. Her work is guided by the belief that real progress happens when children are supported as their full selves. In her free time, she enjoys fostering cats, going to concerts, and spending time in nature.
